Whoop! More single-use plastic are now banned in New South Wales!
The bans, which came into effect on Tuesday 1st November, are part of the Plastics Reduction & Circular Economy Act 2021 and will prevent 2.7 BILLION bits of plastic litter from entering the environment over the next 20 years.
The newly-banned items include:
Single-use plastic cutlery
Single-use plastic bowls, plates and cups
Single-use plastic straws and stirrers
Plastic cotton buds
Polystyrene foodware and cups
Wash-off skincare products with microbeads
These items join previously banned lightweight plastic shopping bags, which were banned on 1st June 2022. Additional items, such as fruit stickers and other barrier and product bags, are also under review for future bans.
